Population

The Ocean City Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 59,554 in 1970 to 97,265 in 2010. That was an increase of 63.3 percent.

The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 2,794 in 1970 to 4,232 in 2010. That was an increase of 51.4 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 4.7 percent to 4.4 percent.

The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 63.9 percent.

Sources of Population Change

The primary sources of population change are:

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Domestic migration (NDM) was the primary factor in population increase in the first period, and NIM was the sole factor adding population in the two most recent periods.

The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, the relative position of the factors adding population was unchanged.
